The Write Stuff for Kids Inc. was organized in 2002 to help students in Clinton, Ill., with the basic supplies they need to start school. Larry McGuire called a group of friends together in February with the idea that no child should go to school without supplies. In August 2002, we filled and delivered about 200 backpacks with supplies.
During the past 7 years, we have seen our numbers grow to an average of 500 students each year.
In addition to paper, glue and other supplies, The Write Stuff for Kids Inc. has purchased computerized lunch programs for the Clinton Junior High and High School. A grant from Exelon Energy assisted with this important project.
We could not accomplish our mission without the dedication of volunteers, including Larry McGuire, Dr. Harold Weinberg, Ed Wollet, Sharon Ijams, Kathleen Frick, Helen Michelassi, Nikki Walters, Tere Tedrick and Edith Brady-Lunny. Special volunteers Debbie and Samantha Mitchell have been terrific helpers.
Donations from our residents, churches, organizations and business community make our work possible. The Clinton Kiwanis Club has been with us every year to pack supplies and the Angel Tree Tree/Samaritan Room is our partner in providing gym shoes to children.
